Haunted or Not?
On Sept 13th 2010, According to one of the over night janitors of Central Middle School in Edmond, Oklahoma - at around 10pm, He as well as another overnight janitor heard what was thought to be doors slamming. When they went to investigate they were greeted by an object that appeared to be what was explained as a floating black mass.
The following afternoon he returned to the school to inform the principal of what they had experienced. At that point the video tape was then reviewed and to every one’s surprise the image was seen on the tape.
Many people are now trying to rashionalise what was being seen, but was it truly a ghost or no?
Rumors of ghosts roaming the halls of Central Middle School have been haunting Edmond for many years.It could be a story that comes from the land. The original building, then Edmond High School, was built in 1956 on Section 36, set aside as Edmond’s School Land.According to Edmond historian and author Stan Hoig, Section 36 included the land from Second Street to 15th Street and from Bryant Avenue to Boulevard. In the late 1800s, bodies could not be buried on government land, which was all the land in the area except for that section.Edmond historian Lucille Warrick said, “The burial ground from 1889 to 1895 was a section mainly around Second Street and Rankin and the Fink Park area. “There weren’t many people in Edmond in the early 1890s, so there couldn’t have been that many graves.”In 1895, 20 acres of land was purchased at what now is Danforth Avenue and Boulevard for $500. Gracelawn, the town’s new cemetery, was started.”Bodies were moved from the original location to Gracelawn,” Warrick said, “but most of the graves didn’t have headstones, so there was a question as to whether all of the bodies were moved or not.”In the 1990s, a grave was later found around Clegern Drive when a family was excavating for a basement.” At the site of the original school building, now known as Central Middle School, stories have been whispered through the years, including one that tells of a lady dressed in Victorian clothing floating through the halls at night. Another story tells of a “ghost man” coming silently down the hall and turning into a boys’ restroom.Some students say they have heard voices or footsteps. Are these mysterious and unexplained phenomena, or just stories being repeated and perhaps embellished through the years?
